The House of Healing

The House’s Story

The house was built in the 1920s as a single-family home, and for much of its life, that is what it remained. Like many old houses, it had character. It also had problems. A lot of problems.

By the time I first came across it, the house had been used as a rental, had fallen into significant disrepair, and had sat neglected long enough that its potential was not exactly obvious. You had to squint a little. Maybe more than a little.

But something about it still felt right.

The agreement to purchase the house was made over breakfast and biscuits at the old Sylvan Park Cafe. The owner and I wrote the terms down on a napkin, which somehow became the actual purchase agreement. It was not exactly a polished real estate transaction. It was more of a leap of faith with coffee stains.

From there, I renovated the house from the studs up. Over the months — and months — that followed, what had once been a deteriorating structure slowly became something entirely different: a calm, residential space designed specifically for healing work.

Today, I often refer to the building as The House of Healing. It’s a bit grandiose, I know. But once I began unlocking the door there every day, the space changed the way I worked. It made the work feel more grounded, more connected, and more personal.

It is a quiet, grounded place where people come for treatment, reflection, and healing. My hope is that the space itself contributes, in a small but meaningful way, to the sense of safety, possibility, and care you might feel when you walk through the front door.
