Dr. Daniel Barton, founder and psychiatrist at Nashville Ketamine Center.

Dr. Daniel Barton

FOUNDER & PSYCHIATRIST

My name is Daniel Barton, and I come from a family that has been involved in the mental health care of Nashvillians for more than three decades.

My father is a psychiatrist and educator, and one of the three founders of Alive Hospice. My mother is a clinical social worker and marital therapist who, along with colleagues, helped bring the mediation movement to Tennessee. My brother is also a psychiatrist practicing in Nashville. That family history shaped how I understand this work, not as something abstract or trend-driven, but as a long-standing commitment to thoughtful, grounded psychiatric care.

After more than twenty-five years practicing psychiatry, I continue to find the work deeply meaningful. In 2012, I founded Nashville Ketamine Center as the first outpatient ketamine clinic in the Southeast because I believed there needed to be additional options for people who continued to struggle despite medications, psychotherapy, and other traditional treatments.

The House of Healing

OUR PLACE, 4414 WESTLAWN DRIVE

4414 Westlawn Drive has been an integral part of Nashville Ketamine Center since its earliest days.

Built in the 1920s, it began as a single-family home and remained so for much of its life. Over time, it fell into significant disrepair and was eventually used as a rental property before sitting in a neglected state for years.

When I first came across the property, it was in a condition that made its potential difficult to see, but still present. The contract for the property was agreed upon by Dr. Barton and its owner and written down on a napkin at the old Sylvan Park Cafe over breakfast and biscuits, reflecting more of a decision based on vision than on polish.
